Discussion: Gathering Information
Review the Discussion Requirements for this course before responding to the prompt below.
Part I: Counselors start the therapeutic process by gathering information from and about the client. The information gathered should aid the counselor in developing a treatment plan for their client’s journey to well-being. The intake session should consist of gathering information from the client and communicating with the client what the therapeutic relationship should be like.

Prompts:
· What information may be helpful to gather from the client during the initial sessions?
· What information about the therapeutic relationship should you be communicating to the client during the initial sessions?
· Based on the information collected by the therapist in the video session, what symptoms might you want to gain more information about?
Part II: There is a fine line between being yourself and being a counselor/professional in the therapeutic relationship and process. We need to understand ourselves through being self-aware and mindful of our emotions and feelings towards the client, and the process. This understanding helps counselors be more effective and efficient and do “No Harm towards the Client.”
